ICI NICE is a guide to the city through the eyes of contemporary artists. This art book and travel journal project intersected with Chantier Sang Neuf, which works on redefining and redesigning a “piece of the city” as part of the smart and sustainable metropolis of the 21st century, with the conversion of the old slaughterhouses in Nice.
As part of ICI NICE, Chantier Sang Neuf also hosts an exhibition of preparatory works and a sound installation, inviting the visitor to experience the artists’ creative process.

ICI NICE is a guide to the city through the eyes of contemporary artists. This art book and travel journal project intersected with Chantier Sang Neuf, which works on redefining and redesigning a “piece of the city” as part of the smart and sustainable metropolis of the 21st century, with the conversion of the old slaughterhouses in Nice.
The starting point of ICI NICE is thus a city guide involving around fifty contemporary artists from Nice, brought together by designer Stéphanie Marin. Each artist has shared their perspective on their city. A sensitive guide, an alternative itinerary, offering the chance to discover the city from an original angle.
Several generations of artists, from diverse cultures and practices, have played tourists in their own city.
Thus, drawings, watercolors, and photos will lead you from the unmissable Place Masséna to the Hills of Freedom as seen by Ben, from an empty pier sketched by Edmond Baudoin to the blending beach of Castel captured by Virginie Broquet.
The guide is published by a publisher specializing in art books: Bernard Chauveau Editions.
ICI NICE / Spatial Version
In the Halle des Abattoirs, each contributing artist was able to propose an installation at a point along the route, expressing their city through video, sound, still image, painting… thereby complementing and spatializing their preparatory drawing created for the guide.
The Workshop transformed into a temporary gallery will present the collection of
original preparatory drawings.
In the same spirit of preserving traces and revealing the poetic content of what’s emerging, a former meat refrigerator will host a sound installation allowing visitors to hear the voices of the artists who contributed to creating a fragmented portrait of their city.
The KUNSTELLATION by artist and architect Didier Faustino
This habitable ephemeral work provided a first mapping
of the transformation of the 18,000 m² former industrial site into an
eco-urban hub for current creations with cultural, economic, and societal purposes.
The KUNSTELLATION designed by architect and artist Didier Faustino invents an exploratory framework that highlights and makes possible the public experiments at this evolving site, programmed in the current research-action phase named Chantier Sang Neuf.
Stéphanie Marin followed the yellow line of the KUNSTELLATION to stage the journey ICI NICE.
