On Friday, January 20, 2012, at 2:30 PM at Villa Masséna, the presentation of the schedule of events that will be organized in Nice throughout the year 2012, as part of the Commemoration of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Repatriation of the French from Algeria, will take place.
Aware of the importance of this event for the repatriated community and Harkis, as well as their descendants, Christian Estrosi wished for it to be marked by the demand for remembrance and reflection. A series of conferences with significant historical and scientific content, in partnership with the INA (National Audiovisual Institute), will be organized. Additionally, cultural events (a film festival, a play, etc.) will take place, and a commemorative sculpture will be inaugurated and located facing the Mediterranean.
This Commemoration has received the High Patronage of the President of the Republic. Indeed, at the beginning of the 1960s, Nice was an exemplary city in welcoming the Repatriates and Harkis, with 40,000 arriving in our city.
