until February 29, 2012, at Galerie des Docks / Nicole Mahieu-11 quai des Deux Emmanuel (open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.)

Luciano Figueiredo is a 64-year-old Brazilian artist who already has a long career, with a strong experience based on the European tradition of Concrete Art that has influenced Brazil and other Latin American countries since the 1950s.

This movement evolved from the original tradition thanks to the experimentalist spirit that dominated the 1960s and 70s, which sought to integrate the idea and possibilities of total art as well as the relationship between different art forms. This has become one of the important paths of contemporary art.

For about fifteen years, Luciano Figueiredo, who divides his time between Rio de Janeiro and Nice, has been active in France in various events, including a retrospective exhibition at the Museum Museum of Gap on the occasion of the Year of Brazil in France in 2005, and several other exhibitions, particularly in Paris and Nice.

The recent paintings shown here at Galerie des Docks are a synthesis of his own experience with color and space, always corresponding with the image; the image is sometimes cinematic or, as a recurring motif, the raw material drawn from newspaper pages is transformed into plastic values: lights, shadows, superpositions, lines, and transparencies then become the structural support of the work. In this latest series,

Luciano Figueiredo also revisits various forms of folding that produce a suspended and three-dimensional effect of the painting within space.
The newspaper is still present in enlargements of photo details integrated into this pictorial articulation and consequently poetic approach characteristic of his process.
