The opening on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, of a new grocery store in Place des Amaryllis marks the first step in the revitalization of the Moulins neighborhood.
Following the retirement at the end of 2010 of the owner of two small supermarkets, the residents (especially the elderly and those without vehicles) experienced supply difficulties for essential goods. The Urban Renewal Directorate of the Nice Cรดte dโAzur Metropolis engaged in discussions with residents, community groups, and local merchants, which led to the establishment of a new grocery store in the place of the former Childcare Assistantsโ Office. This store, run by Riad Guerfi, a neighborhood native deeply involved in the community, provides an essential local service, fosters social connections, and contributes to the improvement of residents’ living environment. This is part of the context for the delivery, in just under two years, of the new market square on Boulevard Paul Montel, connected to the entirely redeveloped Place des Amaryllis.
These developments are part of the implementation of the urban renewal project, whose main objectives are: the opening up of the neighborhood, the creation of an East-West axis through it, the requalification of public spaces, the diversification and improvement of housing, the development of services and facilities, the promotion of employment and strengthening the action of associations, as well as the revitalization of businesses.
