On Saturday night, Nice Hockey won 4-3 against Mulhouse. This victory reinforces the Azuréens’ lead at the top of the D1 rankings.
It was in a frenzy atmosphere that the Nice Eagles claimed victory, 4-3, against Mulhouse. A frenzy atmosphere for a frenzy match! Nearly 1,300 spectators supported the Niçois, and 75 Mulhouse fans had traveled!
Hungry for victory
The spectators were present, and so were the hockey players! During the 60 minutes of the game, each puck was fiercely contested. The Scorpions and the Eagles were hungry for their prey, and every contact was tough.
The Scorpions logically opened the score in the 7th minute. Two minutes later, Nathan Bernier beat Radovan Hurajt and equalized. The Mulhouse team took advantage of a power play to regain the lead at the end of the first period, 1-2.
The Eagles showed a bit more bite in the second period. Karri Koivu made Radovan Hurajt’s net tremble, bringing the teams level at 2-2. Mulhouse’s defense appeared very solid and repelled all Niçois attacks. The goalkeeper resisted the Azuréens’ successive shots, and the Alsatians capitalized on a power play to return to the locker room in the lead, 2-3.
In the third and final period, the Eagles made the difference. Michal Dian and Jozef Slaninak gave the advantage to the Niçois, despite a very good Mulhouse defense. Tempers flared a bit a few minutes before the end of the match. The attacks followed one another, but the score remained 4-3.
This victory further strengthens Nice’s position at the top of the D1 standings. Mulhouse still trails the Nice club by three points. Next Saturday, the Eagles travel to Montpellier, ranked 6th.
