The Left Front organized a solidarity sale on Saturday, March 2nd, in front of the Riquier train station as part of its campaign โThe alternative to austerity is possibleโ.
Last Saturday at 9 a.m., in front of the Riquier train station, a few people lined up in front of a modest truck. What attracts them? Surely the apples and potatoes that the Left Front decided to sell at the lowest prices. It’s understandable why it would attract quite a few, with apples priced at just โฌ1 per bag. Retirees, nearby residents, and even students are taking advantage of the opportunity. โThese are good products that we got directly from the producerโ says Robert Injey, a member of the national council of the PCF. When comparing the price with those in supermarkets, it’s enough to make anyone pale.
This is an alternative campaign to austerity. A means that the Nice PCF found to prove that it’s possible to do things differently. โThe big retailers are profiting off the backs of buyers, there are possible alternativesโ explains Mr. Injey, who intends to meet the expectations of the regionโs inhabitants. The sale is not limited to Nice. Earlier in the morning, the loaded truck began its sale in Antibes. Later, they went to Roquebilliรจre. โThe products are selling incredibly fast, I hope we have enough for the next stop.โ
For the sale, the Front gathered no less than 600 apples and 400 potatoes. They still assure that they are able to do more for the next times: โWe will do it againโ, confided the city councilor, โWe want to prove how easy it would be to do things differently. It isnโt necessary to go broke in supermarkets.โ
The PCF is quietly preparing for the upcoming municipal elections of 2014. For the moment, this is about accomplishing grassroots work. โWe do not want to act like the PS, which cares more about its primaries than the citizens! We are responding to a real need of the inhabitantsโ concluded Robert Injey. More than ever, the Left Front intends to implement policies that turn their back on austerity.
