It is a first nick in the facade of unity displayed by the Nice right since 2008. Jean-Auguste Icart, general counselor and former heavyweight of Christian Estrosi’s municipal majority, announced his candidacy for the 2014 municipal elections.
The growing discontent among right-wing voters over the increasing debt of Nice Côte d’Azur, the daily political inconsistencies of the mayor, and his obsession with his national career clearly inspire ambitions within his own camp. This signals a very open election.
However, faced with the inconsistencies and divisions of the right, we should not engage in unnatural alliances. Instead, we must follow a coherent line, that of rallying the left. This is the condition for a great alternation in Nice, which every day appears increasingly possible.
