Conference: “Oran, the events of July 5, 1962” at TNT

This symposium titled “Oran, the events of July 5, 1962” will take place on Thursday, March 29, 2012, from 2 PM to 6 PM at Salle Michel Simon, National Theatre of Nice.

Professor Jean-François Mattéi, a philosopher and writer, Emeritus Professor of Universities, will be the moderator of this symposium. He will introduce and conclude the interventions of the two speakers, specialists on the topic, who will follow one another during this symposium: historian and writer Jean Monneret and Jean-Jacques Jordi, doctorate holder in history as well.

This symposium will open with the broadcast of audiovisual documents from INA.

Jean Monneret will present “the causes and facts of the events of July 5.” He is the author of a book titled: “The Hidden Tragedy: Oran, July 5, 1962,” as well as several other books on the Algerian War.

Jean-Jacques Jordi will discuss “the consequences of these events up to today.” He is the author of the book titled: “A State Silence, the Disappeared European Civilians of the Algerian War,” as well as several other books on Mediterranean migrations in the 19th and 20th centuries.

-The next symposium, as part of the 50th Anniversary, will be held on September 25, 2012, and will focus on “The Harkis.” It will be preceded by the film program titled “Nostalgérie,” shown at the Nice Cinematheque in April, May, and June 2012, and the commemorative days of June 30 and July 1, at the Jardin des Arènes de Cimiez site.
