Initially, an idea! To meet every Wednesday with friends passionate about theater, sharing a few improvisations and a drink. A few weeks later, about sixty guests gather each week at Bspot for an improv-aperitif thatโs starting to make waves in the Nice evening scene. With its growing popularity, it’s now better to reserve if you want the chance to attend the Wednesday night โcagadesโ at Bspot.
Started just a month ago by Lisiane Maccari, a theater teacher in Nice, and Henri Concas, an actor and trainer in a Nice group, the concept of improv-aperitifs quickly took off like โtaca dโoliโ (spreading like wildfire) online, especially on Facebook. โWe havenโt done any publicity for our concept besides word of mouth and Facebook, and we are surprised but thrilled with the success. We even started taking reservations since last week after we had to turn away about ten people the previous week.โ Lisiane did not expect such a sudden and significant enthusiasm, even planning Sunday sessions for this winter.
โWe fine-tune the concept with each evening, and sometimes we even have a few surprises in store. I think what spread the word is that it’s a no-frills evening where everyone can come as they are, either as an actor or just a spectator. Itโs simple: each spectator, for an entry fee of โฌ10, can attend the evening with one drink included. There are two hats at the entrance, one where you drop your name if you want to perform and the other where you drop the topics for the improvisations you’d like to see. Teams of 3 or 4 people are then drawn randomly, and they have 4 minutes to prepare their improvisations based on one of the themes drawn from the second hat,โ explains Henri.
Evenings where laughter is guaranteed with performances as wild as they are improbable around themes as varied as: the annual meeting of Lourdesโ miracles, a night at speed dating, an argument in the car, or DSK, Berlusconi, and Clinton meeting in purgatory.
If you love improvisational theater, laughter, and evenings you wish would never end, then Bspot is the place to be tonight from 7:45 pm for another improv-aperitif that continues to make a name for itself in Nice.
