Antigone is a one-act play by Jean Anouilh, first performed in Paris on February 4, 1944, during the German Occupation.

Following Sophocles, Jean Anouilh revisits the myth of Antigone. Daughter of Oedipus and Jocasta, the young Antigone
is in revolt against the human law that forbids burying the body of her brother Polynices.

The character of Antigone is an allegory of the Resistance opposing
the decreed laws which she deems unjust.
She refuses the easy way and prefers to rebel,
