Saturday, May 12, 2012, from 10:30 AM at the Castle Hill Gardens in Nice: Picnic and birthday celebration with childminders, children, and their parents
“Tatie” or “Tata” are affectionate little nicknames given to childminders by the children they look after, symbolizing the close relationship they maintain with the toddlers and their families for nearly three years.
These beloved “nannies” will be honored during a great convivial and festive day organized by the city of Nice on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its family daycare.
From 10:30 AM to 5 PM in the Castle Hill gardens, over 300 people (children, parents, and childminders) are invited to this birthday celebration. Numerous activities will be offered for this event: inflatable structures, pony rides, stories and nursery rhymes, dances and songs, shows imagined and created by the childminders (see program below). Around noon, all the guests will picnic on the grass and share a drink to celebrate. A wonderful party organized by the Early Childhood Department and Deputy Delegate Franรงoise Monier.
– The family daycare service
The early childhood care mode at a childminder’s home emerged in France after World War II. However, it was only from the 1960s that the first “home daycare” for children under 3 began to appear. At the end of 1971, the “family daycare” was established and regulated by decree.
The family daycare service in Nice was created in 1972. At the time, it had 2 accredited childminders compared to 150 today! The primary concern of all these professionals over the years: to constantly improve family care, develop, and evolve quality professional practices tailored to the needs and respect of young children. The family daycare service is one of the childcare options offered to parents residing in the municipality, for children aged 2.5 months to 4 years, in regular or occasional care. In 2011, 450 children in regular care, as well as 245 children in occasional care, were taken care of by the city’s 150 accredited childminders, totaling 695 children. The service is organized into geographical sectors. In each sector, there is a family daycare center, headed by a nursery director, surrounded by a multidisciplinary team of early childhood professionals (early childhood educator, psychologist, pediatrician) who supervise and assist the childminders in their care function.
