Sunday marked the inauguration of the brand-new Bourgada esplanade, the first step in the realization of the Coulรฉe Verte, a true urban park right in the city center, which will soon extend over 12 hectares.
After demolishing the bus station, the initial development works on the northern part of the Coulรฉe Verte took place.
This first phase of work allowed for the creation of a 4,200 mยฒ esplanade and the redevelopment of the forecourt of the Vลu Church covering 2,500 mยฒ. High-quality paving using natural basalt and limestone slabs was installed. Public and decorative lighting, urban furniture, and a noise-reducing pavement were also implemented. In keeping with the spirit of the area, 50 new trees were planted, mainly bitter orange trees.
Next step: The creation of the garden on the former car park site will begin in January 2013, after demolishing the site and waterproofing the Paillon vaults.
