Peace and Sport is recruiting runners to fund its field programs. The Champion for Peace, Wilson KIPKETER, the team’s sponsor, will start the 2013 edition, which is dedicated to solidarity.
Peace and Sport, “the organization for Peace through Sport,” under the high patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, and Azur Sport Organization, organizer of the Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes, have concluded a three-year agreement giving France’s second marathon an international solidarity dimension. As the official charity partner of the Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes for the second consecutive year, Peace and Sport aims to promote the practice of sport and its values as a tool for educating young generations, as a vector of social stability, rapprochement, and dialogue between communities.
This strategic partnership will allow Peace and Sport to raise funds by engaging a team of solidarity runners alongside Danish runner Wilson Kipketer, a three-time 800m world champion. To be part of the adventure, each team runner commits to raising €250 for concrete field actions conducted by the organization and its partners worldwide. The runners will have a dedicated fundraising page on the Peace and Sport website.
Peace and Sport will also be present at the Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes through its “Champions for Peace,” a collective of more than 76 international champions, such as Paula Radcliffe, Marie José Pérec, Sébastien Loeb, Jonah Lomu, and Novak Djokovic. This year, the illustrious Wilson Kipketer, a three-time 800m world champion, will bear the organization’s colors at the start of the Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes 2013, on November 10th. A real challenge for this former sprinter with a formidable finish: “I ran the New York Marathon for Peace and Sport in 2011, my first marathon. An unforgettable memory. I am returning to this distance at the Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes to beat my personal record but also to highlight the work of Peace and Sport’s field teams who, like me, believe that sport is a fantastic tool for bringing people together.
