college-2.jpg Eric Ciotti undertook a true marathon this Tuesday, the first day of school. Indeed, the deputy and President of the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes visited five schools on this first day back. He concluded his day with a visit to Joseph Vernier Middle School.

In the presence, among others, of Claire Lovisi, the rector of the academy, and Philippe Jourdan, academic director of national education services of Alpes-Maritimes, Mr. Ciotti inaugurated the international sections.

This year, in addition to English, students will be able to learn Chinese, Russian, Classical Arabic, Italian, or Portuguese as early as first grade or sixth grade as part of the “Heart of International Cities” project.

“A remarkable project”

As the deputy acknowledged, this project was spearheaded for 2 years by Philippe Jourdan, and he wanted to thank the National Education for choosing the department’s institutions as pioneers of this initiative. But that’s not the only reason for his presence. Joseph Vernier Middle School is among the institutions experimenting with touchscreen tablets in classes.

During the 2012-2013 school year, 11 institutions were equipped with the 430 tablets deployed so far, to which an additional 270 will be provided to students this month.

It must be recognized that the schools in the department are at the forefront of technology and education.
