If we were not already familiar with the capacity of the left, in its various components, to tear itself apart and cause self-harm quite independently, one might be surprised by these two statements after reading them. But, for a long time now, we have unfortunately been aware of it. It’s a bit like those whose house is on fire and who argue about who should be the chief firefighter. Perfect, don’t change a thing…
Reaction from Patrick ALLEMAND, First Secretary of the PS, to Ladislas POLSKI’s candidacy: “Rally behind the only one capable of defeating the extreme right”
In light of the gravity of the political situation that suggests the FN is about to take over the township of La Trinité, Ladislas POLSKI has stepped up by announcing his candidacy for the municipal elections.
I commend this commitment to La Trinité and our republican ideals and reassure him of the Socialist Party’s full support, which will join in a coalition list with him.
Given the peril posed by the extreme right, I invite the entire left and beyond, to all sincere republicans, to act responsibly and unite behind the one who now seems by his leadership abilities to be the only one capable of defeating the Front National and turning the page on a worn-out team.
Reaction from Cécile DUMAS, Departmental Secretary of PCF06: Mr. Polski refuses the coalition!
Upon reading this morning’s local press, I learned that Ladislas Polski is a candidate for the municipal elections in La Trinité. Not a great surprise, nor a big scoop when one knows his political ambitions and the PS federation’s support behind him.
What is more surprising is that he positions himself as someone wanting a left-wing coalition to block the Front National.
Indeed, surprising because for several months, the communists of La Trinité have proposed a coalition to Ladislas Polski to form a joint list with a Mouton-Polski duo to win the town hall of La Trinité.
The communists of La Trinité, the only organized left-wing force in this area, have collectively proposed the following strategy: the proposal for a woman to lead the list so that finally a woman can be a left-wing mayor of a major city in this department, and a coalition with Polski to continue the joint work started since the previous term.
We maintain this position and regret that Ladislas rejects this proposal, but there is still time to reconsider.
