Yesterday, Wednesday, Biot celebrated the groundbreaking of the Pierre Operto Sports Complex. Highly anticipated by the residents of Biot, the completion of the project is scheduled for September 2013. In the meantime, a tribute to Pierre Operto was paid. The former mayor of the municipality and sports enthusiast gave prestige to Biot and successfully led a cultural and sports policy focused on youth.

complexesportifbiot.jpgConstruction began in November 2011 and according to forecasts, the Pierre Operto Sports Complex should be operational by the start of the 2013 academic year. The first stone was laid this Wednesday morning in the presence of Jean Pierre Dermit, mayor of Biot, Jean Lรฉonetti, deputy mayor of Antibes and President of CASA, among others.

Today, the municipality has nearly 10,000 inhabitants, and it appears the residents of Biot are sports-oriented since they eagerly awaited this large-scale project.

The Pierre Operto Sports Complex will consist of: a football field with synthetic turf (the same as that used in Ligue 1 fields), two tennis courts, a parking lot with 70 spaces, a multipurpose room, a covered grandstand with 198 seats, and 8 locker rooms. In short, the most delighted are the 12 teams of US Biot Football and the 550 members of the Tennis Club who are thrilled at the idea of finally having a complex worthy of the name. In addition, the project is part of the city’s environmental dynamic and will blend seamlessly into the base of the hill that forms Biot.

This is the story of Biot continuing to be written, a city that seems to believe in the future of its youth but will never forget the one who filled many pages of its history: Pierre Operto.
