Latest News

On Saturday, October 6, 2012, the city of Nice is hosting the conference titled “Girls and Boys in Science and Technology, Equal Opportunities?” organized by the Association Femmes & Sciences, in collaboration with the Mission for the Place of Women at CNRS and numerous institutional, academic, and private partners. The Minister of Women’s Rights, Ms. Najat VALLAUD-BELKACEM, will deliver the opening speech.

This conference, which will be held at the CUM from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., will provide insights into equal opportunities between girls and boys in the success of scientific and/or technical studies and career choices associated with them. It is intended for middle and high school students, university students, and anyone interested in the topic.

The morning will take place in the presence of a young audience and will gather testimonials from women scientists, who will demonstrate how equal opportunities in higher education and social openness can influence the career choices of young people, especially young girls and women, towards scientific and technical careers.

At the end of the morning, the prizes for the Scientific and Technical Vocation of Girls will be awarded to the 2012 winners from Alpes-Maritimes and Var; rewards will also be given to middle and high school students, as well as university students for their work on the theme of the conference.

The second part of the day will specifically address the issues of gender and diversity in mathematics and computer science. Finally, as the city of Nice is hosting the conference, it is natural that Mediterranean initiatives concerning equal opportunities in science and technology will be presented (in Spain, Morocco, and Tunisia).
