It was at the Consulate General that the Italian community of Nice gathered yesterday afternoon to share the traditional Christmas wishes. Italians are one of the most significant and oldest communities in Nice and its region.
Apart from the shared origins from the times of the royal family of Savoy and the proximity of the territories which have always encouraged cross-border exchanges, many from Nice are actually former Italian immigrants. The mayor of the city, Christian Estrosi, proudly claims the arrival in Nice of his grandparents from Umbria.
Today, it is more residents or partial residents for reasons of retirement or tourism who frequent the region. Times have changed, but the ties between the two populations remain the same: A lot of affinity and conviviality.
The Garibaldi Theatre was once again a perfect venue for the gathering of all these transalpine and azure forces, with first a concert by maestro Mauro Maur and Françoise de Clossey setting the tone for the evening. Finally, the traditional “panettone” and a glass of “spumante” allowed the many attendees to exchange wishes.
Unity is without a doubt not an empty word for our cousins and neighbors!
