Registrations for the 5th edition of the Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes Marathon, which will take place on Sunday, November 4, 2012, are open.
In partnership with the Alpes-Maritimes General Council, the cities of Nice and Cannes, Adidas, and the Caisse d’Epargne, Azur Sport Organisation invites you to become part of the legend of the second marathon of France with a start on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice and a finish on the Boulevard de la Croisette in Cannes, just a few meters from the steps of the mythical Palais des Festivals.
Now the second marathon of France after Paris, the Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes Marathon experienced immediate success from its first year in 2008, welcoming 10,000 participants. Last year, the event recorded 11,568 runners in total, with 26% being international runners from 50 represented nations. The record for the event, held since 2009 by Ethiopian Adelo Roba, is 2h10’17”.
To date, more than 5,000 runners are already registered to experience this wonderful adventure! And some haven’t missed a single edition since the first year! Such is the case with Jean BARAKAT, who is celebrating his 60th birthday this year and is treating himself to a 5th participation in the Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes Marathon, an event dear to his heart as a native of Nice.
“I have participated in the 4 editions of the Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes Marathon and I fully intend to participate in the 5th edition for which I am already registered; it will be my 250th marathon!”
The Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes Marathon is obviously an exceptional sporting adventure but also an opportunity to share intense emotions and experience extraordinary events, as Jean tells us:
“My hardest and most poignant memory was the 2nd edition in 2009, which I did 3 weeks after a double surgical intervention for an inguinal and umbilical hernia. I struggled greatly to finish and walked from the 25th to the 40th km with a Swiss runner I didn’t recognize immediately, but he was a childhood friend I had known at the French school of Beirut 37 years ago! I recognized him at the 40th kilometer and then flew to the finish line…”
