The 1700 socialist members of the department were called back to the polls this Thursday to choose the 1st national secretary before holding their departmental congress on Saturday, October 20 at the CLAJ in Nice.
It was no surprise that Harlem Désir, backed by the local leaders of the party, overwhelmingly won the vote with a score of about 85%, significantly higher than the national score, which was just over 70%.
Harlem Désir: “I feel more than ever the pride of being the first among socialist activists.”
Harlem Désir expressed his gratitude to all the socialists who got involved and showed him their confidence this evening: “It is a tremendous honor that I accept with humility, but it is above all a collective victory: this evening, it is the victory of the unity of the Socialists!”
Emphasizing that his legitimacy comes from the trust of the activists, he assured: I will ensure that their voice is heard and respected because they are the driving force of change.
Guaranteeing “full solidarity with the government and complete freedom in debate,” the first secretary declared with determination: “Our party will fight against the crisis, and our opponent is the right which has worsened it.”
He reminded that the Socialist Party is a home open to all citizens, inviting all French people to join it to succeed in change, propose, and innovate.
And to conclude: I am proud to lead a party that is working, that unites the left, and that serves France.
