Lionnel Luca from the UMP to Debout la République: A True-False Information?

Latest News

The information that was good yesterday is no longer good today. We acknowledge this. Naturally, we are well aware that Anthony Mitrano has not overstepped his role, but in politics, when you go too far… You need to know when to backtrack. It is preferable to act but sometimes without saying anything… Doesn’t Anthony Mitrano know this?

In a statement released yesterday, Anthony Mitrano expressed satisfaction with the affiliation of MP Lionnel Luca to Debout la République (DLR). Debout la République wishes to dissociate from this statement. Certainly, Anthony Mitrano temporarily represented DLR in the department during the presidential and legislative campaigns, but he was never officially appointed. The position of departmental secretary for the Alpes-Maritimes is currently vacant, and a new official should be appointed at the beginning of January.

That being said, I would like to clarify the motivations behind Lionnel Luca’s financial affiliation with Debout la République. If Mr. Luca has agreed to allocate his parliamentary share to the party of which I am the President, it is because the regulations of the Assembly allow it. However, financial affiliation is by no means a membership. Lionnel Luca remains fully politically engaged with his political family in the UMP.

If my colleague Lionnel Luca has decided to financially affiliate with DLR, it is primarily out of a concern for pluralism and to help a party with limited financial resources. It is also out of sympathy for the ideas advocated by DLR. This is no secret. We share many common positions, notably on the excesses of the European Union. Additionally, through this financial gesture, Lionnel Luca wanted to give a little boost to our patriotic ideas. It is nothing more and nothing less than that.

Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, President of Debout la République
