On Saturday, August 27, for the closing of its 2011 Summer Meeting,
the Côte d’Azur Racetrack hosted the third and final
stage of the brand new WORLD SUMMER CUP, in the GRAND
PRIX of the ALPES MARITIMES GENERAL COUNCIL.
The trotter COMMANDER CROWE, driven by Christophe Martens,
shattered the European record for the mile (which was held by Varenne*)
by running the distance (1,609 meters) in 1 minute 8 seconds and 9
hundredths.
A magnificent record that ends an exceptional summer meeting on a high note
with its attendance, attracting 42,000 visitors by mid-August.
(*) the previous record, held by Varenne, was 1’9″6
