More than 5,303 young people from Cannes will return to school on Monday, September 5th. Taking advantage of the summer break and various school holidays, the municipality of Bernard Brochand, as it does every year, has carried out numerous maintenance, renovation, comfort, and safety works within the schools under their responsibility, as part of the School Plan implemented since 2003.

Under the guidance of the Deputy in charge of Education, Evelyne Brun, now supported by Joรซlle Roubaudi, who is in charge of the Directorate of Education, the City of Cannes has once again promoted intellectual, cultural, sporting, social, and civic development in schools this year.

For the past 10 years, the municipality, in partnership with the National Education, has multiplied initiatives: early English teaching, combating illiteracy, providing sporting activities for children with disabilities, introducing citizenship, culture, and music, raising awareness for environmental respect and sustainable development, and road safety prevention…

Highlights of the 2011/2012 school year

Once again this year, the City’s Directorate of Education, associated with the municipal services dedicated to youth, culture, sports, and health, will develop and improve both the content and quality of its actions for the well-being of children during school, after-school, and out-of-school hours.

The highlight of the 2011/2012 school year will also be the realization and completion of several major works undertaken in schools as programmed within the School Plan.

๏ƒ˜The Digital School Plan

In 2002, the City of Cannes launched its “Digital School Plan” to equip schools with computer equipment. In 10 years, more than one million euros have been invested in this area.

Public schools in Cannes:
– have computers totaling 450 machines
– are connected to the internet via ADSL connections
– are generally equipped with printers (B&W + color), a photocopier, and a fax.

Three Interactive Whiteboards (IWBs), tools dedicated to teachers, parents, and children for conducting educational projects and/or sharing information, have been provided by the National Education and installed in three schools.

Objectives for 2011:

Deployment of Very High-Speed Internet for schools, with a first phase completed at the end of the first semester of 2011.

๏ƒ˜Improvement of the reception for the public and school staff

Since January 31, 2011, the school registration desks are open to the public all week (instead of 3 days previously).

Furthermore, a registration branch has been opened at the La Bocca annex Town Hall on Mondays and Tuesdays, in addition to the one existing at the Ranguin annex Town Hall.
