In order to maintain agricultural activity in the backcountry of Nice, the municipality of Levens has entered into a fixed-term lease of 30 years with a couple of farmers.
Buildings of 500 mยฒ have been constructed and made available to the farmers, including facilities for a herd of 80 sheep and goats, a milking room, a dairy, a hay barn, a cheese factory, and a sales outlet, which the farmers will operate.
This operation, amounting to 872,030 euros excluding tax, has been subsidized to the tune of 200,000 euros by the State, 170,000 euros by Nice Cรดte d’Azur, 150,000 euros by the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes, 150,000 euros by the Provence-Alpes-Cรดte d’Azur Region, and 69,093 euros by the European FEADER fund.
In addition to the usual agricultural activities, school groups will be welcomed and open days will be organized to showcase the farm’s operations.
