The placement, this Wednesday, of the Alpes-Maritimes on “attack alert,” once again raises security concerns surrounding the Nice Carnival. The topic had already been discussed last year, after police forces arrested one or more suspects in Cannes during the same period, allegedly planning an action at that time.
At the time, the matter was handled with great discretion and, once it was revealed a few months later, it provoked a strong reaction from Christian Estrosi who had not been informed by the Minister of the Interior… A certain Manuel Valls.
Security first, of course. But what will be the economic consequences of this situation on the eve of the Carnival, which is one of the flagship events in the Nice and Côte d’Azur event calendar?
The message sent to the many tourists who enjoy the parades and other festivities to visit the capital of the Côte d’Azur is not the most encouraging. Why take risks to see floats parading – many people would certainly think?
In fact, in the inevitable confusion that arises when thousands of people gather, it is also not easy to implement and enforce strict security measures: the Carnival parade is a celebration that cannot be distorted by treating it like a normal parade.
How can you blame them, especially when it involves often retired people, who are not inclined to adventure!
The question remains unanswered at this stage.
