This Thursday, Patrick Allemand presented his project for the Promenade du Paillon. The socialist candidate places significant importance on culture as a lever for economic development.

These are the words he used to convey that Nice was not fully exploiting the culture it could provide to its residents and tourists. He cited Bordeaux and Nantes as examples.

According to him, the cultural output in Nice is too modest: “Nice has numerous assets, but they are scattered and lack coherence. Nice has now become the poor relation of culture on the Cรดte d’Azur.” There are 17 museums, but they are of unequal quality, and Patrick Allemand wishes for genuine infrastructures. He thus presents an “ambitious, innovative, and unifying but also urban and economic” project. He wants to bring the city into a new world, a new dimension.

Patrick Allemand developed eight points:

1) Thรฉรขtre de Verdure: It will be equipped with a retractable roof, allowing it to host the public throughout the year in all weather conditions.

2) Promenade du Paillon: Requalified as the Promenade des Arts, to host sculptures and integrate art into urban space, accessible to all.

3) The Nice Theater: It will be enhanced within a large cultural complex of which it will be one of the main components.

4) Restructuring of the Louis Nucรฉra Library: A vast space dedicated to books, digital media, and scientific culture,

  • Transfer of works from MAMAC to the International Palace,
  • Repatriation of the Cessole library’s collections,
  • Transfer of the Natural History Museum,
  • Potential twinning with other major libraries such as the one in Alexandria

5) The Congress Palace: It will continue to house the Nice Cinematheque and serve as infrastructure for cultural events, like “C pas classique,” even if it’s not its main purpose.

6) International Palace of Arts and Culture: The Exhibition Palace will be transformed into the International Palace of Arts and Culture with

  • A museum bringing together works from MAMAC, other Nice museums, and the 853 works of the Ferrero donation, with a space dedicated to the Ecole de Nice.
  • A vast area for high-quality international temporary exhibitions organized in partnership with major museums worldwide.
  • Two mid-sized theater halls.

7) Halle Spada: A large Center for Nice Arts and Folk Traditions, a high place of the Niรงois identity

  • Transfer of Carnival activities from Rue Richelmi,
  • Creation of a Carnival museum,
  • Space for Arts and Popular Traditions,
  • Promotion area for the Niรงois language,
  • Place of industrial memory.

8) The Sang Neuf, a major hub for cultural creation

Place for contemporary creation in all its diversity and in all its forms, accessible to all audiences, including children, and in connection with all cultural actors. The Sang Neuf meetings will be organized from 2014 to create the necessary intelligent coexistence among cultural actors.
