The Congress of the Club of Cyclable Cities and Territories is currently taking place in Dijon.

This national event brings together cycling professionals over three days dedicated to the “little queen”.

The Urban Community of Nice Cรดte dโ€™Azur is participating in this bi-annual gathering, through workshops and an exhibition stand, to present its policy on alternative mobility and its developments in favor of cycling while respecting our environment.

On this occasion, Alain Philip, Deputy Mayor of Nice in charge of Transportation and Territorial Planning, has just been elected Vice President, responsible for urban planning issues, of the Club’s Board of Directors.

The Club of Cyclable Cities and Territories comprises 214 local authorities representing 1,197 municipalities and 18 associations and organizations.

Last May, Nice Cรดte dโ€™Azur applied to host the next Congress of the Club.

During the General Assembly of the Club of Cyclable Cities and Territories held last night, Nice was designated as the next host city of the Congress in 2013.

Christian Estrosi, Deputy, Mayor of Nice, President of Nice Cรดte dโ€™Azur, is pleased with this announcement:

“The Club’s decision to choose Nice as the host city for the next Congress of the Club of Cyclable Cities and Territories in 2013 reinforces the policy we are pursuing to make Nice Cรดte dโ€™Azur an exemplary green territory.

Since my election as Mayor of Nice and President of Nice Cรดte dโ€™Azur, I have indeed sought to develop an ambitious overall transportation plan, promoting gentle modes of travel. The enthusiasm of the people of Nice and tourists for the Vรฉlo Bleu self-service system, implemented since 2009, demonstrates that this mode of travel is now an integral part of our city’s life. Residents want to participate in promoting this environmentally-friendly service, perfectly integrating into the urban living environment: to date, we have recorded more than 1.2 million rentals since its launch.

I want to develop the use of bicycles as an alternative means of transportation to cars in the city.

This change is being implemented through the creation of a dense, continuous, and secure cycling network. To date, 60 kilometers of cycling facilities have already been completed. The goal is to reach 125 kilometers by 2013. Such a policy in favor of cycling, and therefore the environment, helps to restore a balance between different modes of transport.”
