From March 29 to 30, 2014, Thierry Kerhornou is preparing to run Milan – San Remo (280 km) in less than 48 hours. A challenge that requires specific physical and mental preparation, as well as support.

datcharun.jpgThe association DatCharun highlights runners from the region, primarily for their spirit rather than their performances. It gathered yesterday at the Endurance Shop to announce its support for Thierry Kerhornou for the first edition of the 280-kilometer Ultra Milan – San Remo foot race.

DatCharun presented the “Team” that will accompany the runner during this long event, a team composed of runners but also support staff to drive the camper van that will follow Thierry and support him during this race, the longest in Europe. DatCharun and Thierry Kerhornou are also running to provide equipment and an adapted environment for Paloma, a young girl affected by a rare disease.

The 48-year-old runner has been preparing for several weeks for this challenge, running 20 to 40 kilometers a day. Accustomed to 48-hour or 72-hour races, Thierry hopes to finish the race “in less than 30/32 hours” by avoiding stops as much as possible, knowing that it can be difficult to start again.

He obviously aims for victory, although he admits to fearing “one or two runners” he knows well. At present, he has not yet established any strategies for this race, planning to think about them “only for the last 50 kilometers”.

If the preparation could intensify in the coming days, he plans to reduce training in 10 days to be fresher for this race, which represents almost 7 consecutive, non-stop marathons!

Gilles Veissière, deputy for sports, was present to show the support of Christian Estrosi. He admitted to being “admiring” of a runner he has followed for years. The former international referee emphasized the importance of this race for the people of Nice, explaining that the City Hall “does not have to try hard to help him” because he has an “extraordinary merit”. He also expressed his respect for Athletics, “the mother of sports”.
