Last night, the Théâtre de la Photographie et de l’Image had a sporty atmosphere with the meeting of the Sports Portal, during which the upcoming European Masters Games were presented to an audience of the main sports leaders from the 27 disciplines featured in this major sporting event for athletes over 35 years old.
On the Sports Portal side, it’s worth noting that the municipal collaborative web platform reached its millionth visitor last year, with an average of 22,000 visitors per month. It goes to show that with open-source software and a bit of goodwill…
A new development is the opening of the portal to sports clubs and associations based in one of the municipalities of the Nice metropolitan area. Good news for these Azurean clubs that will now be able to communicate free of charge to an already existing audience.
Gilles Veissière, Deputy for Sports, confirmed the city’s interest in sports as well as new technologies and handed over to the General Director of the European Masters Games, Ms. Sylviane Casanova, a well-known divisional commissioner recognized for having led the Nice municipal police.
“The European Masters Games are a major event for Nice. Health through Sports is crucial in our society where we need to preserve ourselves, and for that, sport is a key element. In a few days, we will sign a partnership with the CPAM, which will become one of the games’ partners, along with the SNCF. It will be a great celebration of sport, and thanks to you, it will be even more beautiful.” A unifying speech that seemed to delight the guests from the OGC Nice Fencing, Anices, ASPTT Nice, ASBTP, Stade Niçois, Cavigal clubs, and the leaders of the Azurean football league.
For these games to be a success, the dynamism and support of the Nice clubs in managing the competitions will be essential. These clubs are responsible for organizing the disciplines (for example, rugby is managed by the Stade Niçois, led by president Tony Catoni). However, the games will also rely on volunteers, and the European Masters Games Nice 2015 team counts heavily on the Nice sports association network.
The message seems to have gotten through, as evidenced by the fact that few questions were ultimately asked by the guests, who appeared happy to rally around this project given the late hour of the last goodbyes after discussions in smaller groups.
