Many hopes are rightly placed on digital technologies for a renewal of teaching practices aimed at student success.

The effectiveness of incorporating digital technologies in schools relies on a deep understanding of these changes. Research on the cultural dimension of the use of digital technologies helps shed light on this issue and will be the focus of this conference.

A symposium will be held today and tomorrow at the Saint Jean dโ€™Angely Campus, attended by Frรฉdรฉrique Vidal, president of the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis, Claire Lovisi, rector of the Nice academy, chancellor of the universities, and Catherine Becchetti-Bizot, inspector general of National Education, project director for digital strategy.

Jean-Marc Merriaux, general director of the CANOPร‰ network, and Gilles Braun, advisor to the Minister of National Education for digital affairs, will introduce the workshops and round tables that will seek, on the one hand, to define the concept of a connected establishment and, on the other, to specify how the management of such an establishment or school is affected by digital technology.

Regarding the definitional aspects, there will be questions about the paths to becoming a connected establishment in the digital society, the degrees of connectivity, the intensity of exchanges, the actors or beneficiaries of this connection, and the educational and pedagogical added values…

As for management, it will encompass both aspects of training policy and long-term vision, the contents of teaching (media and information education), the empowerment of actors, and more pragmatic and operational aspects related to life in networks where time is virtually abolished.

The question of students’ “life” in a digital world will be raised.

Pedagogical action used to be concentrated in a clearly defined and delimited time and place: all students in the same class received the same teaching at a given hour. Digital technology is a revolution that cancels out space.

The temporal organization, through the immediacy of access to knowledge and the instantaneity of exchanges, is also disrupted, as is the unity of action, which is shattered with flipped classrooms, collaborative work, and personalized pathways.

The entire event will aim to define the scope of this ongoing revolution and perceive the pedagogical responses to it.
