The business world of the Côte d’Azur sounded an alarm at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry regarding the LGV PACA project, which, we are told, is facing difficulties in gaining acceptance from the Var residents.
It is evident that the support for this project is unwavering from the people of Nice, who are continually demanding to be better connected to the major communication routes.
However, while in one direction the situation seems to be moving toward a solution with the prospect of reaching Genoa in 2 hours and Milan in 3 hours, the situation in the opposite direction remains at the stage of consultation, but mostly one of doubt!
Nice-Marseille in 1 hour, which would mean reaching Paris in 4 hours (compared to the current 5.5 hours) and also a Nice-Barcelona route in 4 hours instead of the current 10 hours (!!!) would complete the Mediterranean Arc and give new momentum to the Côte d’Azur economy, both from the tourism perspective and for economic and industrial development, which is the main axis of its strategy.
Of the four scenarios proposed by the Steering Committee, the business and economic sector of the Côte d’Azur has chosen the one dubbed “the fastest” (proposing a minor variation), which, with an estimated cost of 13.2 billion euros, would have the line operational by 2023.
The doubts of the Var regarding the difficulties of constructing a new station (in La Seyne-sur-Mer) and the constraints due to the passage through the vineyards of Haut-Var do not seem to affect the confidence of the “boss of bosses” Yvon Grosso, president of UPE06: “I understand there are problems, but a solution must be found because this project must be done at all costs. The regional and territorial political and economic bodies are unanimously in agreement, and we cannot step back for particular reasons that, although legitimate, cannot hinder the general interest.”
