The French Riviera, 8th wonder of the world?

Latest News

The City of Cannes is calling for a campaign to support the candidacy of Cannes for the UNESCO World Heritage listing of the Lรฉrins Islands and the Croisette.

This campaign was made official by the town’s mayor, David Lisnard, and has two prestigious sponsors: Gilles Jacob, the former president of the Cannes Film Festival, and Vladimir Gaudrat, abbot of the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Lรฉrins.

Cannes’ candidacy adds to those of Nice (Promenade des Anglais), the Grasse region (for perfumery), the Alpes-Maritimes department (Mercantour Park), in association with its Italian counterpart for the cross-border collaboration, and also the Niรงoise cuisine for the intangible cultural heritage, whose promoters are 7 Niรงois passionate about the local culinary art.

At UNESCO, one might wonder if they will need to add a special “Cรดte d’Azur” section to cater to all these requests!

It is said that appetite comes with eating, but here we are almost bordering on gluttony?

In the end, don’t all these candidacies, each deserving on its own, somewhat resemble a tourist catalog?
