ColineOpéra is organizing two performances of Bellini’s Norma at the Nice Opera on December 10th and 15th, 2011. These two performances will raise funds for three associations: La Chaîne de l’Espoir, the Mouvement pour les Villages d’Enfants Foundation, and Toutes à l’école.
The expected cast is exceptional, bringing together for the first time in France, at the invitation of ColineOpéra, the world’s best performers: Edita Gruberova, Sophie Koch, Massimo Giordano.
The musicians and choirs of the Nice Opera are invited under the baton of A. Yurkevitch. The singers will be accompanied by the orchestra and choir of the Nice Opera, which will travel to Paris, Salle Pleyel, on December 20th for the final performance.
Norma
From the famous aria Casta Diva, a dazzling invocation to the moon, to the poignant arioso of the second act, Bellini’s work offers the artist the opportunity for a great bel canto lesson.
The title role is one of the most challenging in the soprano repertoire, and few international singers dare face the incredible vocal agility it demands. The last century still resonates with the legendary triumphs of Maria Callas, Joan Sutherland, and Montserrat Caballé.
Today, Edita Gruberova, one of the best performers in the world, with Hasmik Papian and June Anderson, offers us, accompanied by Sophie Koch in the role of Adalgisa, for the first time in France, a sublime concert version, following a recent triumphant production at the Munich Opera in 2009.
