Jean-Christophe Cambadélis is expected to be elected the First Secretary of the Socialist Party with more than 70% of the votes, the PS announced Thursday evening. Christian Paul, his opponent from the rebellious faction, conceded his defeat.
Although his election was assured following the vote on the motions, with his coming widely ahead last week at the PS Congress with almost 60% of the votes, the challenge was precisely the score.
The result shows that Jean-Christophe Cambadélis significantly increased the motion’s result. Probably, the voters of Karine Berger’s motion opted for him.
The two votes, on the motion and the First Secretary, will be confirmed on June 5th and 6th during the congress in Poitiers.
On a local level, it remains to be seen whether the “rebels,” who achieved a better result than the national one (40% compared to almost 30%), will want to oppose directly the candidate of motion A, Xavier Garcia, for the position of Federal Secretary 06, who will be the future leader of the local opposition.
