Latest News

After a previous edition at the port of Villefranche-sur-Mer, the Nice Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized the “tourism and shopping” operation.

port_de_nice-2.jpg Following a study conducted by the Nice Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), 65% of cruise passengers visit the city on their own, and 76% of Corsica-bound passengers spend more than 1.5 hours around the port. The CCI therefore decided to launch the “tourism and shopping” operation in the Riviera capital.

The event was organized around the stopover of two cruise ships in the Nice port and the departure of two ferries to Corsica.

Throughout the day, cruise passengers were treated like royalty. Welcomed by a traditional Provencal music group, they were given a bag with a map of Nice, postcards, and discount coupons. A free port shuttle was also at their disposal. Additionally, they could benefit from preferential rates for the tourist bus and in many shops and restaurants participating in the operation.

Identifiable by red balloons and “l’escale sensation” stickers, about a hundred Nice merchants, members of the French Riviera Cruise Club and the Z Card (a supplement to the smartphone application “Port de Nice”) took part in the operation.

The main objectives of “tourism and shopping” are to invite cruise passengers and Corsica-bound travelers to visit partner establishments, to entice them to consume, and to promote the Côte d’Azur destination. All this is aimed at optimizing the economic impact of port activities on its neighborhood, on the city center, and at improving the relationship between the city and the port.
