The Vertical Kilometer of Saint-Martin-Vésubie: a dizzying rush

Latest News

The Vertical Kilometer, a Bonus event of the Challenge Trail Nature 06, which had hosted the first French championships of the discipline, returns this Saturday.

Nearly 400 “hardcore” participants are expected to take on the challenge of this dizzying course and attempt to set new ascent records.

Organized by the Departmental Commission of Trail Races 06, the competition takes place at the trail station site of Saint-Martin-Vésubie, which will host the French short and long trail championships next September, and will be traversed by the Ultra-Trail® Côte d’Azur Mercantour during its final kilometers.

Conducted as an individual time trial with the first start at 9 am and then every 30 seconds thereafter, this event challenges participants to conquer the 1,150 m elevation gain connecting the village center to the summit of La Palu, over a 4.4 km distance through woodlands and rocky paths.

The finish offers a breathtaking panorama stretching from the coastline to the summit of Mount Argentera in Italy, the pinnacle of the southern Alps.
