Unemployment is decreasing in the Alpes-Maritimes.

Unemployment rose again in May after two consecutive months of decline, according to figures released by the government this Friday. The number of job seekers registered with Pรดle emploi in category A increased by 0.3%, with an additional 9,200 job seekers.

However, in the Alpes-Maritimes, itโ€™s the local exception that confirms the national rule with a decrease of 0.5%. This result is admittedly more modest than the previous month, but the decrease since January is 3.5%, compared to 2% nationally.

There remain 69,030 category A job seekers in the department (98,460 across all categories combined).

These numbers nonetheless confirm the improvement underway in the job market.

The trend, however, remains downward with 70,700 fewer job seekers (-2.0%) over the past three months.

After a decrease of 60,000 people (-1.7%) in March in mainland France, the number of job seekers without activity further decreased by 19,900 (-0.6%) in April. The Pรดle emploi indicator has also been decreasing since the beginning of the year (69,400 fewer unemployed, -1.9%) and, for the first time since 2008, declining over a year (-22,500, -0.6%).
