The celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Musรฉe dรฉpartemental des Merveilles in Tende will also be an opportunity to inaugurate the museum’s newly renovated forecourt. Named “Josรฉ Balarello,” in memory of an emblematic figure in the political life of the Alpes-Maritimes, especially of the Roya and Tende.
In 20 years, more than 500,000 visitors from around the world have come to discover one of the most beautiful sites of rock engravings in Europe.
The international cultural influence of the Musรฉe des Merveilles is owed to meticulous scientific research that has enriched archaeological and historical knowledge in the eastern part of the department.
With its temporary exhibitions, activities, and conferences, this museum has successfully provided a clear and engaging insight into five millennia of human presence in the Alpes-Maritimes.
This anniversary will be celebrated throughout the year: with children’s games during visits to the permanent gallery; exploration of spaces traditionally closed to the public (such as reserves, the scientific library…), which constitute the very basis of the internal functioning of an archaeology and ethnology museum for adults; and family activities where parents will act as cultural mediators for their children.
To ensure everyone benefits from these opportunities in 2016, conferences and workshops are also being organized tailored for children hospitalized in Nice and seniors in retirement homes in the Roya Valley.
