Nice-Matin: A Credible SCOP Project!

Latest News

The attempt by the employees of the Nice-Matin group to acquire the publishing company placed under judicial administration has received support from the communist representatives of the Riviera.

The employees of Nice-Matin are showing with determination that there is no inevitability in the face of the financial grinder of employment. Despite all the gloomy forecasts and the maneuvers of all sorts from more or less serious buyers, they continue to support a SCOP project that is gaining credibility every day.

A project, which if validated by the Commercial Court, would allow the continuation of the group’s activities, relying on the Employment Safeguard Plan, bitterly negotiated by the employees and their representatives.

What once seemed like a theoretical hypothesis is now taking shape, as this project, in order to be eligible for takeover bids, needed to be backed by a private partner.

Since the gathering that took place in front of the Prefecture on Tuesday, July 29, events seem to be accelerating as the Intersyndicale announces that buyers have contacted them to negotiate the terms of an agreement to present a takeover bid.

A takeover bid based on the results of the PSE, with no forced departures, thus having a social impact incomparable with other known offers so far, which ranged from 300 to 800 layoffs. An offer that would preserve the integrity of the group’s titles, free it from a purely financial logic, and thereby provide space for an independent editorial line to express itself, contributing to the pluralism of local media.

As the Intersyndicale commits to consulting the employees to validate this offer and to respect their choice, I extend my full support to them, hoping they can demonstrate that the spiral of unemployment and recession is not a foregone conclusion.
