25 Imams from the Alpes-Maritimes gathered this Saturday afternoon on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice to pay tribute to the victims of the July 14 attack, which left 84 dead and over 200 injured.
They laid a wreath on one of the improvised memorials on the roadway, before offering a prayer and observing a minute of silence.
Hocine Drouiche, vice-president of the Conference of Imams of France, called on the imams โto mobilize to reassure French society and isolate all ideas of terrorism and hatred.โ
Mr. Drouiche expressed his desire for โan Islam that is integrated with French values, an Islam that accepts the values of the Republicโ such as โsecularism, individual freedom, religious freedom, the acceptance of the place of women, an Islam that is not aggressive and confrontational.โ
