Attack: The fine example set by Dominique Estrosi-Sassone

Latest News

The political reactions following the Nice attack were not all distinguished by their relevance or intelligence. Dominique Estrosi-Sassone managed to elevate the debate with a poignant speech.

In this time of vulgar controversy, instead of the restraint that respect for the memory of the victims should impose without exception, political exploitation (the French Republican primary in November and the presidential election in May 2017 do not justify everything) and lamentable exchanges of accusations regarding responsibility, how can one not highlight and emphasize the exemplary behavior of Senator Dominique Estrosi-Sassone? Following the clashes between the government and the opposition (of which she is a part), she refused to engage in controversy out of a sense of responsibility: “The truth will be established at the end of the investigation.”

And she further explained: “The quarrels among everyone must end, as they discredit a political class already battered by our exasperated citizens.”

A woman of character, sometimes described as authoritarian and haughty, she has just reminded her peers that politics, in the noble sense of the term, must have and give meaning, escape opportunism, not instrumentalize events, and maintain a moral standard.

This singular voice, which stood out from the chorus of belligerents, thus acquires a particular aura. It needed to be said.
