Between Ventimiglia and Menton, hundreds of refugees are being juggled,
once again, between Italy and France. These two countries
stand out for their unwillingness to address the issue of these men, women, and children,
who are corralled in Ventimiglia, leaving the door open to all tragedies,
all exploitations, and all abuses.
Since the beginning of 2015, Italian humanitarian structures have been
overwhelmed—due to lack of resources—to accommodate the refugees, who are
forced to wait, sometimes very long, for the examination of their
situations. These reception facilities are almost nonexistent on the
French side. However, solutions do exist to end this
situation.
This is the purpose of the proposal put forward by the communists to
transform part of the former 943 airbase in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin into
a genuine reception and regulation center,
for the orientation and care of refugees, a structure worthy of
the 6th world power!
On December 7, 2000, in Nice, a few kilometers from the Italian border,
the European Union adopted the Charter of Fundamental Rights, which states:
“The Union is founded on the indivisible values of human dignity, freedom, equality, and
solidarity.” It is urgent to take action!
