This Monday, September 28 at 7 PM at Plaça dei Barbets (formerly Place Masséna) will be the presentation of the future local currency of Nissa and the celebration of the election victory in Catalunya (Catalonia).

Nissa and its County were united for almost 5 centuries with the House of Savoy (1388-1860). We had Chambéry as our capital, and then Turin from 1562 onwards. Nissa was considered “fedelissima” (the most faithful) to Savoy.

On this occasion, the name of the local currency of Nissa, which will be implemented with the merchants, artisans, and associations of the Babazouk (Old Town) and the Port of Nissa in 2016, will be presented.*

There will be parity between the local currency of Nissa and the Euro, and Euro cent coins will also be used for the local currency. The participating merchants, artisans, and associations will commit to a Charter. The exchange between the Euro and the local currency will be carried out by these participants, and the bills will have a validity of 1 year.

The very active “president” Christou Daurore is never short of ideas or initiatives: “We would also like to restore the name of Place Charles Albert, sovereign of Savoy (1798-1849), where the Apollo is located. We wish for this square to reclaim its name in order to honor these 5 centuries of shared history with Savoy.

Furthermore, we believe too much honor is given to Mr. André Masséna, who was part of the invading army of the County of Nissa in 1792 and participated in the hunt for the Barbets, the resistors of this occupation from 1792 to 1814.

Thus, the Barbets, unknown to the general Nissart public, will be highlighted in the largest square of Nissa.”

Finally, the “Nissart Republicans” will also be at Pont Michel this Sunday, September 27 at 4:30 PM to participate in the procession heading towards the Abbey of St. Pons for a historical reenactment of this event, organized by the association Boulegan Sian Nissart at 5:40 PM.
