A vast popular participation – even though fewer in number than those who took advantage of a summer day to visit the beaches or other visitors to the triathlon village – accompanied the tribute march in memory of Hervé Gourdel that took place yesterday.
Civil and religious authorities (including representatives of other faiths) and many elected officials were at the forefront, just behind the banner bearing the inscription “Tribute to Hervé Gourdel – Nice April 27.”
The march, which the family participated in, took place in silence and, starting from Place Ile-de-Beauté, ended at the Théâtre de Verdure where a brief speech was delivered by Michel Bricola on behalf of the mountain guides of which Hervé Gourdel was a part.
“We will forever cherish your unforgettable face of friendship,” he declared, before saying, “On behalf of the family, we thank the countless messages of sympathy we have received.”
A morning full of emotion, during which words gave way to feelings of spiritual solidarity.
May the earth rest lightly upon you, Hervé Gourdel, and may you rest in peace.
