This Saturday, at the Château de Carros, the inauguration of the Carnet de bord exhibition, a retrospective of Henri Baviera, will take place.
A selective presentation of the multifaceted work of the artist, born in 1934, highlighting the diversity of his successive periods (mineral, schematic, dreamlike…) and the techniques explored over half a century of activity: paintings, plastic volumes, engravings, artist books.
At the conclusion of a year marked at the CIAC by the revelation of artists from Carros and the international celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of Le Corbusier’s passing, the city of Carros is presenting a retrospective view of the journey of an artist who has participated in the major creative movements on the Côte d’Azur while developing a very personal universe at its contemporary art center.
First in Saint-Paul de Vence, where he associated with André Verdet and the great names of modernity, then in Nice at the heart of avant-garde movements, and finally in Lorgues since the 2000s in a conducive environment, Henri Baviera has experienced several rich and diverse periods. His work was undoubtedly influenced by the sites and places he frequented, the studios he created, and the encounters he experienced. A renowned engraver, he also collaborated with many fellow visual artists or writers, at the crossroads of multiple influences and approaches.
Beyond the various techniques executed with virtuosity, he consistently expresses a message of hope, asking his contemporaries for a bit more respect for life and nature. Through Henri Baviera’s work, it is this dual dimension, both human and territorial, that we are delighted to highlight today.
