And what about Nice in all of this? Could the mayor of Nice be aiming to conduct a parallel diplomacy?

So many questions that official speeches will answer!

While waiting for the rest of the “Story”…

On December 2, 1944, General de Gaulle, accompanied by the President of the National Council of Resistance, Georges Bidault, and General Juin, went to Moscow, where they were expected by the USSR Foreign Minister, Vyacheslav Molotov. That evening, he had his first meeting with Stalin.

This was followed by various negotiations, notably on the Polish question, which led on December 10, 1944, to the signing by the representatives of the Provisional Government of the French Republic of the first treaty of alliance and mutual assistance with the Soviet Union. The aim of this pact with the USSR was “to eliminate any threat from Germany and to thwart any initiative likely to lead to a new attempt of aggression on its part.”

For his part, during his last trip to Russia, in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, from November 11 to 14, Christian Estrosi took the opportunity to honor the memory of the Normandie-Niemen squadron, highlighting the legendary brotherhood of French pilots and Russian mechanics between 1942 and 1945, particularly the last commander of the regiment, the Niçois General Louis Delfino.

Christian Estrosi also emphasized to the Deputy Foreign Minister, Aleksey Meshkov, the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Duma, Deputy Aleksey Pushkov, and the mayor of Moscow, Sergey Sobyanin, the importance of maintaining close relationships through a collective to keep the dialogue open and nurture deep and longstanding friendships.

The Deputy Mayor of Nice also reaffirmed his commitment to cooperation and the development of relations with the twin city of Saint Petersburg on the cultural level, but also in other areas, including technological innovation.
