Gérard Van den Bulcke, Director of the Alpes-Maritimes League Against Cancer, and Eugenie Clauzon shared their wishes for 2020.
A Look Back at 2019
The general director of the Alpes-Maritimes League Against Cancer first wanted to discuss an agreement signed by the Chamber of Commerce, Employment Center, the Employers’ Union, and the Chamber of Crafts. This is the largest community to have signed a partnership with so many partners.
Three major events marked the league:
- A general assembly at Acropolis where about thirty centennial medals of the league were awarded.
- A conference on artificial intelligence with Professor Axel Kahn.
- A colloquium titled “Let’s Discuss.”
Kiabi stores were committed during the Pink October month. Over 500,000 euros were collected for all committees in France. 8,947 euros were donated to the Alpes-Maritimes committee by the three stores in the department.
The Alpes-Maritimes committee has over 8,000 donors, with 7,700 members. Last year, one million euros were donated for research aid, and 850,000 euros went to aid patients in the department.
2019 was also the year of Alex Kahn’s election as the new president of the League Against Cancer.
Two major battles will be fought this year against tobacco and alcohol. Following a parliamentary initiative that proposed to discuss it again, the Prime Minister assured that it “was not a question of revisiting the Evin law,” which prohibits the consumption and advertising of alcohol in stadiums.
A Look Ahead to 2020
Eugenie Clauzon, the new departmental director of the association, assures that “in 2020, we are contributing through our financial support to research, continuing to be the leading private funder of cancer research.” Numerous actions to promote screening will be undertaken, as 40% of cancers are preventable.
The Snow Day Challenge will be held in Auron on March 7, with the aim of helping patients. The program includes snowshoeing, skiing, a stand with crepes and hot drinks, and even a Snow Trail. It is the major event that will kick off the year.
On April 7 at the Palais des Congrès, the general assembly will take place to explain the projects and actions of the League Against Cancer.
