Today, middle school students from the Maritime Alps will participate in the annual trip organized by the Departmental Council for a visit to Auschwitz and Birkenau.
The Journeys of Memory, organized for the past 16 years as part of the departmental Action Plan for the respect of republican and civic values among young people, fit perfectly into this fundamental work of remembrance.
By giving 9th-grade students from the Alpes-Maritimes the opportunity to visit the extermination camps of Auschwitz and Birkenau in Poland, the Department aims to raise awareness among the youth about the horrors of our contemporary history.
Since the inaugural trip on December 18, 2003, 80 trips have been organized, and more than 16,000 middle school students have participated.
