The Masked Ball. The Prefecture Sets the Record Straight.

After the initial hesitations โ€” it must be said that to this day, the WHO recommends wearing them but does not make it obligatory โ€” protective masks for health workers and those in public roles, as well as private individuals, have made their assertive entrance into the public debate.

Afterwards, it has been and still is a race to see who can produce, buy, or distribute the most masks. This generosity is a bit suspect… does it not seem to be seeking easy popularity rather than real involvement in the fight against the epidemic?

The State, caught off guard, responds in its own way. Sometimes accused of being slow and insufficient, the Prefecture, through a statement, wanted to dot the i’s: “Thus, to date, nearly two million protective masks have been distributed by the State to health establishments and professionals as well as to the medico-social sector in the Alpes-Maritimes. These distributions are in addition to those carried out by the State for its own services and emergency services.”

Chronology of the distribution of protective masks:

As part of the fight against the spread of the Covid-19 virus, the State ensures the distribution of surgical and FFP2 type protective masks to healthcare establishments, medico-social establishments, as well as liberal health professionals and home care services. This distribution
is carried out via hospital groupings and wholesale distributors.

In the Alpes-Maritimes, an initial delivery received on March 20th at the hospital grouping concerned public and private health establishments as well as nursing homes. 291,000 surgical masks and 106,580 FFP2 masks were thus distributed, totaling 397,580 masks.

A second delivery, received on March 27th at the hospital grouping, concerned public and private health institutions, medico-social establishments (for the disabled and elderly), emergency transporters, and home care services. 241,650 surgical masks and 106,550 FFP2 masks were thus distributed, totaling 348,200 masks.

A third delivery, received on April 6th at the hospital grouping, concerned public and private health facilities, medico-social facilities (for the disabled and elderly), home care services, and emergency transporters. 505,000
surgical masks and 58,000 FFP2 masks were thus distributed, totaling 563,000 masks.

A fourth delivery, received on April 11th at the hospital grouping, concerned public and private health establishments, medico-social establishments (elderly and disabled), home care services, and associated structures. 10,084 surgical masks and 59,500 FFP2 masks were thus distributed, totaling 69,584 masks.

Liberal health professionals (doctors, medical biologists, nurses, pharmacists, midwives, physiotherapists), home aid workers, and family host caregivers also benefited from the delivery of 217,550 surgical masks between April 7th and 9th. In total, since the beginning of the crisis, 560,700 surgical masks and 39,800 FFP2 masks have been distributed, via pharmacies, to health professionals, home aid workers, and family host caregivers.

These same professionals will receive a new allocation in the process of being delivered until April 20th to pharmacies, via wholesale distributors, of 135,600 surgical masks and 25,650 FFP2 masks.

A new delivery to the hospital grouping, particularly destined for the establishments, is planned by the beginning of next week.
