While many major festivals and cultural events are canceled throughout France as a result of the Covid-19 health crisis, the Department of Alpes-Maritimes has announced the continuation of the “Soirées Estivales” program, a key cultural initiative of the departmental council.
To date, 400 performances are scheduled across the department to enliven the social and cultural life of the area. In 2019, 400 shows attracted more than 200,000 spectators. The Department, as the primary partner of culture in the Alpes-Maritimes, allocates more than 17 million euros to this policy.
The Soirées Estivales initiative will thus be readjusted based on national authorizations for the resumption of socio-cultural events, and the departmental council has planned to postpone the programming to the fall if shows cannot be held during the summer.
